Privacy Policy

Last updated .

This policy explains what information is handled when you use bigtimetrivia.com, who else receives it, and the choices you have. In short: there are no accounts, your answers are scored in your browser, and the site uses Google Analytics to see which pages and quizzes are used and which results come up.

Quizzes and your answers

You don't need an account, a name or an email address to take a quiz. Your answers are scored by code running in your browser on the quiz page. They aren't sent to us or to anyone else, and the site doesn't save them.

Each time you ask for a result that differs from the last one shown, the page sends Google Analytics one event, called results_view, recording which quiz you took, whether you used the short or full version, how many questions you answered and which result you got. It doesn't include your individual answers, and since the site never asks for your name or email, nothing in it identifies you by name.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics, a Google service, to count visits and see how the site is used: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and which quizzes are finished with which results. The team sees this as reports in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics also records some interactions on its own, such as scrolling down a page, clicks on links to other sites, and starting or submitting a quiz form. Those records say that a form was used, not which answers you chose.

Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser: _ga, which Google says is used to distinguish users, and one beginning with _ga_, which keeps track of a visit. Google's documentation gives both a default expiry of two years. Your browser's requests to Google Analytics also carry your IP address and the address of the page you're on; Google says Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses. Google explains how it uses information from sites like this one in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

To stop Google Analytics from collecting data in your browser, use Google's opt-out browser add-on. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser's settings.

Hosting: Cloudflare

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which delivers every page and protects the site from attacks and abuse. To do that, Cloudflare processes each request your browser makes, including your IP address, browser details and the page requested, under its privacy policy. The team can see the traffic summaries and security logs Cloudflare provides to site owners.

Cloudflare may add a script or set a cookie for its security services, for example to remember that a browser passed a check for automated traffic. Cloudflare lists its cookies in its cookie documentation and describes them as strictly necessary.

Cloudflare Web Analytics is also turned on for the site. Cloudflare adds a small script to each page that reports page views and how quickly pages load. Cloudflare says this tool doesn't use cookies or local storage for analytics and doesn't track visitors over time by IP address or browser details.

Fonts

The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google's servers. Like any web request, that request includes your IP address.

Advertising

The site may show ads served by Google. When it does:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Other ad vendors or networks that serve ads through Google may use cookies too. Where a vendor offers its own opt-out, you can use it on that vendor's website, or use aboutads.info.
  • Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Consent

The site shows no ads today. Before ads run, visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be asked for their consent through a consent tool certified by Google, as Google requires for serving ads there, and this page will be updated to describe it.

Cookies and local storage, in one place

The site's own code doesn't set cookies or use your browser's local storage. Cookies you may find from this site come from Google Analytics, from Cloudflare's security services and, when ads run, from Google and its advertising partners.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever your message contains, and use them only to reply and to act on what you wrote, such as fixing an error you reported. There's no mailing list. We don't sell your email or share it with anyone, apart from the email services that deliver and store it. Ask and we'll delete your messages.

Please don't send sensitive information, such as health details, by email.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. This site doesn't respond to it: the same services load whether or not your browser sends the signal. The opt-outs above are the way to limit Google Analytics and personalized ads.

Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Your data

Because the site has no accounts, the only personal information we keep ourselves is email you send us. What Google and Cloudflare collect is covered by their own policies, linked above.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes what it collects or which services it uses, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.

Correction, October 10, 2026: this policy said the page sends Google Analytics a results_view event each time you ask for a quiz result. Pressing the button again with the same answers no longer sends a second one, so the policy now says an event goes only when the result differs from the last one shown. The paragraph about Cloudflare's security services now says Cloudflare may add a script as well as set a cookie.
